Today is a very exciting day for a particularly gray and fuzzy little beast.
It’s the day that Maverick has (finally) joined millions of his brethren by starring in a ridiculous cat video on YouTube.
We’re very proud.
Two things of note:
1. These videos were filmed during a weekend when KnightlySquirtis was staying with us so we had just eaten 20,000 pounds of pancakes. AND it was laundry weekend, so there are clothes hanging everywhere. AND we were all lounging. So we all look scrubby and the house is a wreck – please ignore.
2. If you don’t watch the whole thing, at least scroll to the 2:10 minute mark – the end is the best part.
So without further ado, enjoy:

Meet Maverick.

(Warning: gratuitous pet pictures aplenty here. If you’re not a cat person, you might want to skip this post.)
This little beast is the freakin’ light of my life.

That’s 17 pounds of love, right there.
This post has been a long time coming. I think it’s pretty obvious that food is something that lights my fire, but I really love cats too. I have so much respect for how smart they are, and I love how you can practically see a cat’s soul when you look into his eyes. I think they’re absolutely beautiful creatures with the flexibility and grace of a dancer. When they’re playful, they provide hours of laughs.

Cats are really very human animals. You know the iconic scene in Meet The Parents, when Jack says that cats don’t just give away their love, but you have to earn it? Well, yeah. A relationship with a cat is as good as what you put in. If you really love them, they will devote their undying love and affection back.

If you don’t, then you’ll end up with an aloof cat at best, and at worst a mean cat who is afraid of people and destroys your house.
When I first got Maverick from the HSPCA, I bought a book called Think Like A Cat: How to Raise a Well-Adjusted Feline, Not a Sour Puss, and the author is absolutely brilliant. I have had cats my entire life, but this book taught me how to get the best out of my relationship with him. As a result, I have a cat who:
Greets me at the door.

Fetches.

(He likes to fetch socks…don’t ask me why.)
Loves kisses and hugs.

He has never bitten or scratched a human in his life.
Loves other animals…

(When KnightlyBoyfriend’s cat wants to come back inside, he hops on the windowsill and Maverick – who is an inside cat – meows to let the rest of us know that he’s waiting. They also like to cuddle with each other.)
And people.

(Ladies, doesn’t it melt your heart when the sig. other does something like this with pets or children when they think you’re not looking? It melts mine.)
Maverick is my ittle witty bitty baby. His “royal” name is Maverick Mavy Moo Poo Poo Pants Meowface Purrington McScratchy Whiskerson. And it’s well-deserved because I treat him like a little prince. But hey, he’s one cool cat.

I love me some fuzzy critters.
Introduce your pet! What do you love most about your pet babies?
PS – people who don’t like cats always feel the need to tell me how much they dislike cats. Because I feel that this is rude, I reserve the right to delete any comments of that nature. And to tell you that I dislike your children…or YOU.
PPS – I do, however, encourage comments about any pet, whatever the species! (Or is it genus…?)
